This is the “Gender†issue. This means that there are a number of pieces about the construction of gender. Where there are a number of philosophical pieces about what gender and sex means in society, there are some different pieces present that keep individuals interested. For example, there are CD Reviews and listings of zines by feminists. This zine will go slowly because a number of the pieces in this issue are very formal, to the degree that they could conceivably be submitted for credit in a college class. Of particular note during this issue has to be “At War With One’s Bodyâ€, which described the suicide of a transgender individual named Mailka. The writing style is strong and it follows a logic that is not present in a number of pieces that incite such high levels of emotion. Even if some of the pieces are a little on the dry side while still being very informative, the layout of this issue is strong enough that individuals are kept interested throughout. This is done by varying the pieces considerably but also by creating interesting backdrops that illustrate or highlight specific parts of the magazine. Check out this issue of Suburban Blight and get educated about the nuances of the perception of gender in society. Give them a few extra bucks and I am sure that they will be able to stick a few other issues of the magazine into the envelope. A solid, well-researched bit of research by the individuals at Suburban Blight headquarters.
