This British act is definitely copping style off of the sixties girl group acts, as well as those artists that followed in the same general style. This EP starts out with the really fifties-sounding title track, with a little bit of Donnas and Sounds thrown into the mix. The track seems a little distant to individuals, which means that the instrumentation takes center stage while the vocals are shunted to the back. For a track in this style, the vocals should be front and center.

The instrumentation is not annoying, but it does not really shine as much as do the vocals provided on songs like “Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me”. The band starts the EP in a very uncertain way, and the instrumentation still sounds like it needs to be mastered. The opening to “I Love You” is much more calm and sedate, and allows for the instrumentation to order itself in a way that was not present during the opening track. The vocals take their rightful place on this track, and can actually be heard by individuals that wish to hear them. The band stays in that earlier style, and cuts the track. The songs on “Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me” are all extremely short, which is perhaps the best way The Pipettes could go. The songs rely heavily on repeated lines and styles, and to have a track at a minute and a half means that the band does not need to craft anything more complex or anachronistic to the style that they play on the disc. “Really That Bad” is perhaps the best track on the CD, because it does add a few more layers to give the track a more Josie and the Pussycats like sheen.

 I was not familiar with The Pipettes before this CD, and after listening to “Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me”, I feel that I should check out what they have in store for listeners for their full length album, which is coming out hopefully soon. This is eight minutes of the band’s music from their full length album, and it makes individuals salivate for more of the band’s music without giving away too much of the story. Check this band out if you like a strong female act that plays catchy music and does not sound like all of the other artists on the market at the current.
