SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ — Sean “The Pen” Garrett, one of the most sought after songwriters and producers in music, is about to take center stage as a performing artist.  The six-time Grammy Award nominated Garrett recently inked a label deal with Interscope Records, it was announced today by Jimmy Iovine, Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M, a unit of Universal Music Group, the global music leader. Garrett will be the first artist released on his label, Bet I Penned It Music. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his debut album, expected to be released later this year.

After writing and/or producing hits for Beyonce, Usher, Nelly, Fergie and others, and hot tracks for Gwen Stefani, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Destiny’s Child, The Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, and more, “‘The Pen’,” wrote mtv.com, “might soon be known as ‘The Star.'”

For two consecutive weeks in 2006, Garrett’s name was on each of the top three songs on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart: “Grillz” by Nelly featuring Paul Wall, Ali and Gipp; “Check On It” by Beyonce featuring Slim Thug and “Run It!” by Chris Brown.  Garrett was ranked the #1 Pop and #2 R&B Songwriter of The Year by Billboard.  He was also honored as co-Songwriter Of The Year by BMI.

Nicknamed “The Pen” by superstar Jay-Z, Garrett can claim numerous #1 songs.  Along with “Grillz” at #1 Pop and #1 Rap, “Check On It” #1 Pop and “Run It!” #1 Pop and #1 R&B/Hip-Hop, “Goodies” from Ciara also reached #1 Pop and #1 R&B/Hip-Hop, “Ring The Alarm” from Beyonce charted #1 Dance, “London Bridge” from Fergie peaked at #1 Pop, and 2004’s “Yeah!” from Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris, Garrett’s first major hit, claimed the top spot for Pop and R&B/Hip-Hop.  “Yeah!” was also named BMI’s 2005 Urban Song of the Year. Other  #1 hits include “Buttons” from the Pussycat Dolls, “Do You Know What It Feels Like?” from Enrique Iglesias-Dimelo and Kelly Rowland’s “Like This.” Garrett has received additional BMI Urban Awards for “Goodies” and “Lose My Breath” from Destiny’s Child. Garrett has developed a business partnership for upcoming endorsements and marketing synergies with JH Management, Jeff Haddad.
