The Red Romance is steadily becoming the hottest new band to watch on the indie music scene right now. The New York City-based group combines ’80s pop with Motown-influenced beats and edgy rock n’ roll flair featuring band members  Darren Beckett (drums), Adam Chilenski (bass), Herschel Gaer (guitar) and Matthew Dublin (vocals and guitar).

After a little under four years of relentless touring, recording, releasing an album, more touring and the inevitable partying that came with the territory,  Beckett and Dublin former drummer and bassist of über-hip indie band Ambulance LTD tendered their resignations and started The Red Romance.

“It was not an easy decision to leave the dream and go back to day jobs, but we had no choice;
We wanted to make pop music based on the music we loved, such as The Smiths, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, Scott Walker, Pulp, Blur,  Phil Spector-era pop, and so on, not too-cool-for-school stuff. So, in early 2006, we tendered our resignations…”
says Matt, when asked about the eventual decision to quit the band and start a new one.

With a full catalogue of songs former Ambulette’s Darren Beckett and Matthew Dublin teamed-up with bassist Adam Chilenski,  later adding Herschel Gaer on guitar, to complete their vision of what The Red Romance should be. It soon began to blossom.

They started to rehearse and write a bunch of songs then found themselves on the humble stages of various NYC clubs.  Shortly after completing their monthly residency in the Lower East Sides Piano’s, Brandon Flowers of The Killers (an old friend from the Ambulance ltd days) reached out to the NYC pop quartet and invited them on the road for some East Coast tour dates.  Based upon the strength of their rough demos and word on the street from their previous NYC shows,  Flowers was impressed and it was indeed an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Not long after their first US tour in support of The Killers, The Red Romance felt inspired to record their self titled debut EP in the winter of 2006. Upon mastering their four-pop-inspired-upbeat-musical-marvels, the phone soon rang again…  Before you could say “Hello Cleveland” – the band all embarked, once again on a slew of arena dates with band mates The Killers –
solidifying the fact that The Red Romance really do have a loyal and growing fan base and their myspace hits and EP sales began to excel.

For a band with no record deal and no substitute trust funds – playing Madison Square Garden after only being together just under a year and selling records and tickets on a purely DIY basis – The Red Romance are a band with the potential and selling stature of their Vegas friends, already on their way to bigger things and doing it so far, entirely on their own.

Now’s your chance to see The Red Romance showcase – live and direct at Club NME NYC this August 16th at Annex.

“…Irresistibly catchy indie-pop with eighties hooks and a The Killers-esque swing to it.” – Metro Music Scene

“(Spin) completely excited about the Red Romance’s future. It’s classic rock’n’roll, anchored by
Beckett’s rock steady, Motown-influenced backbeats…
