As one could very well expect from the subtitle of “Restricted”, this zine has to do with empowering the previously marginalized voices of members possessing a different level of ability and sexuality. The works present in this issue of the zine were culled together by one Jeanette K Beal, and the energy in which ey starts out “Welcome To The Freakshow” imbues the rest of the zine with a momentum that will make it virtually impossible to put Restricted down. The layout has a lot of variation to it but has enough of a common thread (by the frame in which a number of articles reside) to make individuals know that they are still reading Restricted. Pieces here run the gamut of poetry, prose, historical pieces, painted art, and even a question and answer section. The variety of different styles here along with a number of different contributors give that much more in the way of energy to a magazine that is already shuttling along at the highest of speeds. Perhaps the most interesting piece in this issue of “Restricted” would have to be Joelle Ruby Ryan’s piece, “’Defected’ Bodies/Queer Bodies: Notes on the Intersections of Transgender and Disability”. As this title is self-explanatory, I feel okay moving onto describing yet another solid piece, which goes into deal about “Multiple Personality Development”. Restricted has a ton of information that anyone can easily understand, and the pieces allow individuals that are still wanting more information to easily find it.
