Dynamic, Birmingham, AL hard rock band MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER has completed work on the second music video from its critically acclaimed new album “Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: II”. The video — for the barnstorming MAYLENE track “Darkest of Kin” — was shot on location at Hurley Studios in California by Director Soren (Deftones, Kyuss, ALOL / A Life Once Lost) the day following the band’s final live appearance as part of the 2007 VANS Warped Tour.
The “Darkest of Kin” clip features MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER performing its hundred proof hit while skateboarding cult heavyweight Steve “Le Machine” Alba and a slew of “old school pool skaters” cut it up in the background. “Darkest of Kin” and more music from MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER is also prominently featured in the new Hurley short surf film, “Sound & Vision Vol. 1”. Set to premiere across the globe via live webcast this Saturday, September 15 as part of the “Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley”, “Sound & Vision Vol. 1” is the first in set of short surf films under the company’s “Sound and Vision†quarterly series. With over 600,000 people anticipated to watch this year’s live webcast of the “Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley”, the worldwide launch for Hurley’s “Sound and Vision†series is expected to be the largest surf film premiere in history. In addition to the exclusive webcast during the contest (which takes place in Lower Trestles, CA), Hurley is hosting ten satellite viewing events around the country, two of which incorporate the ‘jumbotrons’ at the Pier in Huntington Beach, CA and the City Walk in Orlando, FL.
The first film to lead the series, “Sound & Vision Vol. 1” follows young Australian surfing talent Yadin Nicol, as he sets his sights on the World Championship Tour. Each subsequent 15-20 minute “Sound and Vision†episode will profile Hurley personalities and team riders, including rising star Yadin Nicol, international favorite Rizal Tanjung, surf icon Rob Machado, and multi-talented Tim Curran, among others. The “Sound and Vision†film series will give fans a look inside the exciting and dynamic worlds of Hurley’s leading athletes, documenting the sights and sounds from incredible locations like Bali, Australia and Africa, and everywhere in between.
The growing ties between the professional surfing and skateboarding landscape and fast-rising band MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER does not end there, however, as the popular MAYLENE anthem “Memories of the Grove” has been added to the epic soundtrack to the forthcoming Activison skateboarding game “Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground”.
