It isn’t easy to pull off punk in a time when the sounds and sights of the subculture have been commercialized to the farthest ends of Planet Retail, but every once in a while comes a band that can break out of the teen demographic that bands can get stuck in. Toronto’s Die Mannequin – a trio of fierce musicians that have collaborated with MSTRKRFT, Ian D’sa of Billy Talent, and Junior Sanchez for their first two Eps – are exactly that kind of ragdoll rock iconoclast.

Combining the Canadian releases “How To Kill” and “Slaughter Daughter,” Die Mannequin will release “Unicorn Steak” as a digital release in November to coincide with their first real tour of the states after a successful welcome at this year’s SXSW and a sonic maraud of European and Canadian audiences for the last 18 months. They’re impressive not by meeting the requirements of being a full package – the look, the sound, the production and the inexpressible element that pulls you in – but by being chock full of thunderous onslaught and as tender as a bleeding heart.

We could return all the way to the femme punk height of the 70s and 80s with Blondie and Siouxsie all the way through to Courtney Love, Karen O and Brody Dalle. Times change and genres come and go, but a woman like Care Failure – the female lead and eminent presence of Die Mannequin – is just the kind to re-energize the waxing of an ever-changing current of rock n’ roll.

Oh yeah, and at the dawn of their US release, they’ve already played more arenas and stadiums than most bands will ever see in their career (handpicked to support the Deftones, Sum 41 & Finger Eleven, and Buckcherry on their full Canadian tour, as well as select dates with Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, and Guns N’ Roses).

“Failure is refreshingly humble, even in the face of burgeoning success…as the saying goes, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. The trials and tribulations of Care Failure’s youth are merely stepping-stones for this music maiden.” – The Nerve Magazine

iTunes featured “Autumn Cannibalist” from Die Mannequin’s first EP How to Kill as Single of the Week…close to 200,000 people downloaded the song.
