The CD has 14 songs ,was published in 97, and is on Flying Nun Records . GL is a 4 piece band from New Zealand. They have very decent Indy songs with excellent tempo changes, while still keeping a cohesive sound. The transcribing of the lyrics to the CD liner is horrible. GL can sound like all sorts of acts, going from hard rock to pop to Alt. Rock. “Nude Star” has a really good and noticeable bass line to compliment the distorted guitars. “Pop Cigar” descends into horrible Britpop with keyboards. “Beelines to Heaven” has a nice Elvis Costello sound too it, while adding a 60’s sounding tambourine enhanced chorus. There is an amazing guitar part to the end of this song. “Come Back” brings the successful nice-stanza with hard chorus back to rock balls out. “Fire Away” has a post-punk, Devoish sound to it, with clipped guitar parts accentuating the good guitar solos. “I’m Looking for what I cant get” is a hard, driving indy-punk song with powerful lyrics and guitars/bass. The band is very chameleon like, with oodles of influences, ranging from 60’s pop to punk to metal. They can be found online at www.flyingnun.co.nz
