GREAT NORTHERN’S PRE-TWILIGHT RECORDINGS TO SEE LIGHT OF DAY; DIGITAL PRE-RELEASE SET FOR NOVEMBER 6, ALBUM OUT FEBRUARY 2008

LOS ANGELES, October 24, 2007 – Before Great Northern honed the lush lullabies that made up its arresting debut LP, “Trading Twilight for Daylight” (Eenie Meenie Records), the L.A.-based foursome constructed a set of songs that laid the early groundwork for the band’s cinematic pop. Previously only available at live shows, the five-track prequel to “Twilight,” entitled “Sleepy Eepee,” will be made widely available due in part to the overwhelming demand from fans in non-tour markets. Eenie Meenie Records will digitally release the EP via iTunes on November 6, followed by a physical release February 2008.

Beginning with a hypnotic, swirling synth, ‘Loose Ends’ introduces the listener to a band coming into its own and discovering its voice – in this case, voices. These “Sleepy Eeepee” tracks are more subdued than their “Twilight” predecessors but equally as intoxicating. Rachel Stolte’s and Solon Bixler’s signature intertwining harmonies hover alongside Ashley Dzerigan’s understated bass playing and Davey Latter’s bombastic drumming.

Following a showcase at last week’s CMJ Music Marathon, Great Northern is currently trekking across the U.S. with cohorts Robbers On High Street. The band has been incessantly touring in support of its acclaimed debut LP, which was released this past May on Eeenie Meenie Records. NPR.com recently singled out the album track ‘Low Is a Height,’ exclaiming it “functions as both a dreamy pop epic and the musical embodiment of a mood that’s somehow both sunny and oppressive.”
