Kanekoa, the Hawaiian Rock Band from the North Shore, Maui, fronted by two ripping electric ukuleles will release their debut Major Hana Records album, “Under The Coconut Sky”, on November 6th, 2007. “Under The Coconut Sky” is distributed by Fontana/Universal and is available now, exclusively on iTunes.Director Peter Farrelly saw Kanekoa play in LA and soon thereafter cast them as the featured band in the Farrelly Brothers upcoming DreamWorks/Paramount film “The Heartbreak Kid” starring Ben Stiller. “The Heartbreak Kid” will open in theatres across the U.S. on October 5th and features KanekoaÂ’s first single “Way Down,” (from the Coconut Sky CD) in both the movie and selected television and trailer spots.

Kanekoa’s version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” has been an international iTunes Folk Chart hit; in 2006 it was #1 in Canada for six months, #1 in Australia for four months, and # 1 in the U.S. for three weeks and continues to chart in many countriesÂ’ Top 100 charts. “Somewhere” was released on Major Hana Records Hawaiian music compilation, “Ohana – Volume One”, and has been featured on the soundtrack for, “Marilyn Hotchkiss’ Ballroom Dancing And Charm School”, starring Danny DeVito, John Goodman, and Robert Carlisle; “The Pride of Britain” with Tony Blair; and, various PGA Tournament national television broadcasts.

Kanekoa will have 40,000 friends on MySpace by the time of release, far more than any other band from the state of Hawaii. Their Andy Warhol/Peter Max influenced, psychedelic versions of “Morning Sun”, “Nice One (Live) 1 & 2”, “Ever Since”, “What Have We To Lose”, “Aumakua”, “Followin A Fool”, and second single, “Stranger Things” are currently available for viewing on YouTube.

Kanekoa is comprised of: Lead Singer/Rhythm Ukulele player, Kaulana Kanekoa, Ukulele/Guitar sensation, Vince Esquire, Travis Rice, Shawn Michael, and, Brett Nelson. Esquire has played electric guitar with Willie Nelson, The Allman Brothers Band, and Los Lonely Boys.

Kanekoa will begin touring throughout the United States in November.
