Veil Veil Vanish – Into A New Mausoleum / 2007 Self / 6 Tracks / http://www.myspace.com/veilveilvanish /

Veil Veil Vanish come forth at the beginning of their “Into A New Mausoleum” with a very time tested and true sound, blending together The Cure-like vocals with an energetic, gothic-tinged backdrop.  What results is a linkage of old and new, and Veil Veil Vanish can go forth and get newer fans as well as old. “Shadows Dripping Like Honey Kissing” will get individuals dancing even as the dark emotion of the band continues to paint the band with a mysterious quality. The instrumentation easily equals in quality the vocals, and individuals will have a hell of a time unraveling the dense and intricate arrangements of Veil Veil Vanish on this EP. The extended length of tracks on “Into A New Mausoleum” would spell curtains for a weaker band, but Veil Veil Vanish are able to keep individuals interested throughout, no matter how they approach a track. “What Will You Say Tonight” starts off slowly, the instrumentation creating a layered effect on which the sad and sorrowful vocals can rest on.

The resulting track is an unlikely dance hit but will still have individuals singing along with each syllable that falls out of the singer’s mouth. “All Hands In Prayer” has to be the atmospheric champion of “Into A New Mausoleum”; during this track, Veil Veil Vanish provide individuals with an entire landscape of instrumentation that gradually lets in the vocals. The band is tremendously capable in the instrumental scheme of things, and I would like to hear an instrumental set from them sometime in the future. Don’t get me wrong, the vocals are interesting in their own right, but they obfuscate what is a tremendously compelling set of instrumentation on “Into A New Mausoleum”. Give this EP a few spins and I guarantee you will become enamored with Veil Veil Vanish.
