Rahim – The Same / 2007 Dimension Arts / 2 Tracks / http://www.rahimrahim.org /

I thought that Rahim would be a rap artist that used samples from Do The Right Thing. I was wrong. The first track on this single is “The Same”, and it shows Rahim as an act that is well versed in the instrumental style of the trippy, psychedelic (and Persian-influenced rock ) style of the late sixties. There is a current sound to the band that will get individuals interested, but Rahim has deep roots in the music from a different period. The unfortunate thing (if one could really call this unfortunate) is that each of the two tracks on the disc end well before the three minute mark.

“When She Arrives” is the B-side of this single, and provides individuals with two different paths – either they can take ion the bard-like sound of the vocalist, or they can be distracted by the meandering and stilted sound of the instrumental arrangements on the track. Regardless, they will be rewarded. Regardless, the two tracks on this single make me want to search out this band and receive more material from them – their interesting look on indie rock will keep me warm all through the up and coming winter.
