These Are Powers’ music is composed spontaneously through improvisation and collaboration. Focusing on tight, cyclical, incrementally shifting grooves smeared with spectral guitar and banshee vocals – rather than the general entropy favored by many improvising units – the band upends traditional stylistic expectations of acts operating within the noise-punk continuum. The recent addition of Bill Salas [aka Brenmar] allows Anna Barie and Pat Noecker to further develop their concept of the band as arbiters of “ghost-punk” – that is, an expansion and evolution into the emotional resonance of repetition of the unfamiliar.

Constantly on the road touring, These Are Powers splits time between living in Brooklyn and Chicago. To combat rising fuel costs and to make touring more affordable, the band has invested in a van that runs on both diesel and used vegetable oil from restaurant grease vats, thereby also reducing These Are Powers’ impact on the environment.

Terrific Seasons is their first full-length album and is the follow up to These Are Powers [self-titled] EP [self-released, 2006], The South Angel Remixes EP [self-released, 2006] and Silver Lung/Funeral Xylophone 7″ single [Elsie and Jack, 2007].

These Are Powers are:

Anna Barie – vocals, guitar, percussion [ex-Knife Skills, Fxxxing Lion]

Pat Noecker – vocals, prepared bass guitar [n0 things, Liars]

Bill Salas – drums, percussion, electronics, vocals [Brenmar]
