A Beat Of Our Own #2 / $2 / 40M / Jared, A Beat of Our Own, 123 B Park Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27605 /

A Beat Of Our Own is a decent magazine. There are interviews with members of The Avengers, APPLE, Social Unrest, and Thought Crime, among others. This is pretty much the only thing that is in this issue of the magazine. For those individuals that are into reading interviews, A Beat Of Our Own will be a gold mind. However, for individuals that like a more varied approach to their zine experience, this zine may not be the best. The lay out has a traditional cut and paste style, but there are hunks of text that are laid out in ways that will make individuals turn the magazine around in a number of ways. The amount of content provided in this issue is not easily scoffed at, and as long as Jared adds a few other types of article, this zine will be a much better read. Also, while discussing the classics in this issue is a strength, perhaps there could be more in the way of space given to those acts that are currently tearing up the punk, peace-punk, hardcore punk and similar scenes. In eir defense, Jared is trying to do that with a call placed in this issue; hopefully more people will step forward with information as time passes and more individuals are able to read the zine. Make sure to send a few bucks to the address if you would like to get a copy of this magazine and have some holes filled in about the history of punk rock.
