This is the only zine that I have read with its thirteenth issue that doesn’t mention the significance of the number at least once. No, forget that, the two editors of the magazine have much more important and fun things to do with their time, and I believe the magazine does better as a result of that. Having articles about old school education films and the most fun roller coasters at Cedar Points provides a nice contrast to all of those magazines who only deal about the current mess their life or the state of politics is currently in, and after reading tons of these zines, one tends to get a little tired of the doom and gloom. I reviewed the sixth issue of alco-beat a long time ago. Thankfully, all of the praise that I heaped on it at that time still can be applied to this issue. Standout articles in this issue include “Spin Cycle”, which isn’t afraid to go and say that Laundromats are usually full of some very creepy people, and “sex drugs and good manners”, which is the aforementioned article about the school education movies, including a top list of sorts of Stacey’s favorite movies. If you are someone who easily gets offended, please don’t get this zine. I’m sure the editors of it have much better things to do than listening to reasons why they are horrible people. If, on the other hand, you are into incredibly well written pieces about issues and recollections of memories that will either have you reminiscing or convulsing on the floor with laughter, I would implore you to get this extremely fabulous zine. While the cover price is 60 cents, I would tell you to send at least a dollar to cover costs, as this zine is most definitely worth 1, 2, or maybe even *gasp* 3 dollars! Send the money to alco-beat, P.O. Box 1363, Madison, Wisconsin 53701-1363.
