Alt.Culture.Guide #3 / $13 / 2:45 / 268M / http:/www.mondogordo.com /

This is a huge magazine. When someone looks at the 268 page count, pay attention to the fact that these pages are nearly the size of a normal piece of paper. The font is not large, but it is not small to the point that it is sightist; what I’m trying to say is that there is a lot of information in Alt.Culture.Guide. The only thing that can be said negatively with Alt.Culture.Guide is that the layout of the magazine has a decidedly nineties feel to it; This has a Word-done feel, and the editors of the magazine do not apologize for that. Each of the sections of the magazine (one can get away with calling it a book and not technically be incorrect) is laid out, and is clearly delineated. First one has the sort-of articles about music, followed up by the interviews, and finally (and for the longest part) the reviews roll. The great thing about Alt.Culture.Guide is the fact that acts are covered in detail that are not the most famous. Sure, famous punk bands like Nausea are present, but who has actually heard of Pistol Star, Collin Herring, or Smallspace? The price might put off some people, but considering that each of the pages probably has about 600 words on it, the price per word is much less than practically any other publication that is out on the market. Here’s to hoping that this publication continues on in a yearly format, just so bands of all stripes get their time in the sun.
