Even though Dave shrinks all of these pieces of notebook paper to an acceptable size to ft in the small format of the zine, the fact is that with just a few illustrations, a great deal of information is conveyed. The style is by no means at the level of Diesel Sweeties, but rather just based off of stickfigures. Instead of being well-drawn and flat, Dave’s style is Spartan and yet extremely emotive. Everything in At Night, I Dream is encapsulated to a point that there is no need to be filled in on the background of Dave to fully enjoy the exploits captured in the zine. What is also incredibly heartening to see is the fact that Dave tries to give away these zines, only asking for trade or minor amounts of money to really break even. Thus, the people who really want to see the zines can, and Dave doesn’t get completely into the red with these issues. Everything is straight-forward, really detailing the events that happen in a typical perzine with an asston less words than the average perzine would have to put forward. The only thing that is somewhat confusing is Dave’s transmogrification of Care to Carp (sic) Diem, but even that will be picked up without fault by the vast majority of eir’s readers. Thus, At Night, I Dream is so good, so strong for such a short read that I would suggest sending Dave a few bucks and having eir send back a package of this high-quality work.
