Best Zine Ever! #3 / :30 / 24M / PO Box 12409, Portland OR 97212 /

There are so few zine review zines currently out there – Zine World and Broken Pencil are the only two that easily come to mind – and the number of other zines that actually devote a few pages of their space to zine reviews are pitifully few. Thus, it is such a good thing to see someone compiling “Our Favorite Zines of 2004”, with decent-length reviews and an all-encompassing focus to their zine. Thus, around one hundred different zines get the review treatment, and interested individuals are given the editor’s contact (along with a price). There are a few snippets (mainly visual) that Best Zine Ever showcases during the review, so individuals will be able to get an even more informed opinion about the zine in question. The host of reviewers features a number of the veterans in the scene – Artnoose (Ker-Bloom), Brooke Young (SLC zine library) and Joe Biel (Microcosm) – along with some lesser-known (but still important) zinesters – Celia Perez (I Dreamed I Was Assertive). Different styles allow the reviewers to focus on different facets of the zines they review, and this diverse set of foci really will allow individuals to find zines that they will like – regardless of whether their tastes run towards perzines, political zines, or comics. The only thing that I wish Best Zine Ever! could change would have to be their annual publishing schedule. If Greg could get this volume of zines compiled in a monthly fashion, Zine World would have a delightful companion piece. Try to help Greg out by sending your zine to the address written above.
