Blood #7 / :30 / 48S / $2 / Jeff, 114 Canter Blvd., Nepean, ON K2G-2M7 Canada /

Absolutely no background to escape the miles and miles of typed word in this issue, and Blood only is pleasing to the eye when an individual looks at the front or back cover. Jeff’s style is well-defined, incredibly dense, and a little “holier-than-thou” at times. I mean, Jeff makes something like a pet squirrel seem like an epic description of a warrior in Homer’s Illiad. I understand that your life may be important, but do we honestly need all these intense and verbose descriptors thrown on the page like so many greasy chicken bones? For example, can’t we just say “I went inside to eat some food that my parents gave me” instead of “I retired indoors to eat some of the bizarre processed foodstuffs my parents left [for] my consumption.” You are Jeff, not Bacon, and your little musings on things, while as valuable as anything else that any inhabitant on this earth may write, are blown so far out of proportion that it isn’t funny. Journalsong is the exact same way – sure, someone may want to search out every single facet, every correct word to convey one’s emotion, and even though I’m not a Strunk and White supporter, after a certain amount of idiosyncrasy is passed in the zine, the zine itself becomes unreadable. The conundrum in this issue of Blood is the crap-shoot that Jeff finds eirself in; even when trying to “dumb it down” by using phrases such as “is what you might call ‘old school’, the general feeling an individual will take from this is that this person is too far out of the loop to not sound stilted when writing that. Excellent vocabulary, Jeff, but the dragging-out of this issue is unacceptable.
