This was a zine that was traded for issues of my zine, and now I feel bad, as if my zine is not one, much less a page of this amazing zine. Think of Ideosyncratic Girl, the comic that the audience sees but does not get to read in Mallrats. The inner content of the comic, I imagine, would read a lot like this comic. And, I can honestly say this, that The Assassin and the Whiner is worth the praise that I received from all the people that submitted top ten lists for my promotion of the same name. This comic is a visual perzine, detailing a few times in the editor/inker/whatever’s life, leading from her first crush to her current battle with the bottle. I had to keep reminding myself that the events that she talks about in this comic actually happened to her, and to not fictionalize what is so dear to her. The storytelling abilities of Carrie are not to be rivaled, something that can also be said about her incredible drawing abilities. I haven’t had the pleasure to review many a comic, but I would saw that what this reminds me of is a mixture of Eightball and Cat and Girl. I really don’t know why I am even reviewing this, as every one and their mother knows about this amazing zine, but on the off chance that someone hasn’t heard about this cornerstone of hip, send $1 to Carrie McN, PO Box 481051, LA, CA 90048-9651.
