British Sea Power New Album News

Across the pond, British Sea Power fans are kicking up quite a ruckus in the name of rock music as anticipation builds for the release of their forthcoming album in early 2008. From the BSP Newsboost:

“Perhaps the overriding theme of the forthcoming BSP album Do You Like Rock Music? is good versus evil. Or rock music versus non-rock music. For, surely, ‘rock music’ and ‘non-rock music’ are synonyms for all that this is truly good and truly bad in this world. To this end, BSP are compiling a list of all that is truly rock music and all that is truly non-rock music…. The enlightened radio broadcasters Radcliffe and Maconie have already come to our assistance, canvassing entries for the fields of rock music and non-rock music on their Radio 2 show…And, of course, do feel at liberty to froth, fight and disagree. But, REMEMBER, in their self-sealed role as the moment’s supreme rock-music authority, BSP will have final say. Oh yeah.”

Read more about the public debate, what it all means, and how you could be one of those “garlanded with praise” via the in-depth overview @ The Tripwire ; or why not dive right into the broth of bubbling ideas at the BSP messageboards. If you prefer to exercise caution, perhaps review the brutally mayhemic critical analyses in the comments at the Guardian blog.

Meanwhile, the rave reviews are already starting to pour in.. “The rousing “Down on the Ground” swaggers like Morrissey, “canvey Island” thrashes mightily from emotion to emotion, and “Lights Out for Darker Skies” and “Waving Flags” are the sort of grandiose, majestic hymns of glory that send armies off to victory. In fact, the only thing odd about this genuinely explosive record is in how fearlessly it expresses its passion… at a time when most tread such ground with caution.” – Fiter Mag, Dec. ’07

Feast your eyes on the mysterious new video for the gorgeously triumpant 1st single “Waving Flags” (directed by BSP’s Yan himself) to premiere on Pitchfork today. You may also stream the track for a limited time only at BSP-space!

A UK tour has been announced, and a lengthy stay stateside is almost confirmed! Enjoy more recent interviews with Yan, Noble, Hamilton & Woody over @ Prefix Mag, Blackbook, Hecklerspray, & The Tripwire.
