ChicMusique #8 – ½ size – 40 Pages – First, I just have to say that this is the 2nd issue I’ve received from Persygrrl, but this is the first one I’ve got around to reviewing. This is the best resource for music that is created by females, a genre in itself that is ignored by and large by the music industry. This is due to the fact that they only seriously promote cute, preppy females that are diva-esque or are thin and play guitar. The zine is clear, classically laid out text with only advertisements and photos of the acts. While Persygrrl has a few artists featured in each issue, she also tangentially reviews a number of other zines and artists. Persygrrl chooses to focus on the lesser-known acts of the day, but she never fails to mention those artists who have made it big in the industry, such as Kittie, TLC, and Betty Blowtorch, to say only a few. Persy does not vary much on her choice of pieces, mainly being reviews or interviews, but manages to keep it interesting, even though some of the interview questions are the same. If you are curious about what some of your fellow females are doing in the musical sphere, they buy a copy of ChicMusique. Do that at Persygrrl, PO Box 611480, Port Huron, MI 48061, or go to http://persygrrl.sphosting.com.
