This is a personal zine that is immensely political. Or maybe vise versa, but I really don’t know. Aaron Cynic does a good job in doing very emotionally-charged pieces for ey’s magazine, describing many of his pieces with glimmers of hope that are almost at odds with ey’s self-chosen nickname. While the first issue (one I did not get to see) was created for a class, this issue was done purely out of the necessity for another zine with “outlandish views and crazy rants and raves”. Individuals looking for a cut-n-paste style will be disappoint with Diatribe, as Aaron is content placing a brick of text on each page, and only peppering full-page images throughout the issue. Strangely enough, this issue has a lot to do with anthropocentrism and the audacity of certain humans to assume that they are the only sentient beings in the cosmos. Of special note, Aaron provides some very useful information about the Lunar Embassy, a group who currently “owns” the Moon, the Earth, the Sun, and a number of other celestial bodies. Other topics are covered in this issue as well, which has a piece focusing in on the Total Information Awareness Office and the VeriChip. A cohesive and coherent zine, and one that I am definitely looking forward to receiving in the future. A must for anyone who wishes to have intelligent but not dry criticism of humanity.
