Hippie Casual #1 / Half-Sized / 16 Pages / $1/2 stamps / [email protected] / Andrew, 104 Harrington Point, Chapel Hill, NC 27516

Note: this issue is over ten months old, and Andrew might have gotten some other issues out, but this is yet another zine that reaches out on random tangents, not easily fitting into a political or perzine design. Actually, if one would get rid of the food content from Alco-Beat, or toned down the exploits of Alex (from Dunk&Piss), you would have Hippie Casual. Some of the pages are actual filler, such as the “Panderings”, which are just a number of hand-written, hard to read meanderings, but some of the pieces actually show a naiveness that is at times endearing. Andrew is the farthest thing you can get from a jaded zinester, and it is really touching to see one like that after all the years I’ve read the sob-for-me life is so jaded type of zines. While the actual content is a little skimpy, even for a sixteen page zine, I am definitely a fan of Andrew’s views on things. Where I understand where ey is coming from in a piece like “This is Just Filler”, it doesn’t necessarily seem like ey things about every possible line of reasoning before writing. Still, I would really like to see other issues of Hippie Casual, if not for the unadulterated views of a “whiney, suburban kid.” I just share a bond with Andrew about being out in the middle of nowhere cutting-edge, and trying to make a way for myself.
