After the success that the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie had in the movie theaters last year, it is not a surprise that Paramount would release “The Chipmunk Adventure†on DVD now. The film is celebrating its 21st birthday this year, originally being released in 1987. This means that this feature is animated, and it comes from the great show that was the eighties iteration that was Alvin and the Chipmunks. The film starts off with Alvin, Simon and Theodore being entrusted to the care of Miss Miller as Dave goes off to a European vacation of sorts. However, their furlough at Miss Miller’s house is short, as Alvin finds a way that they can get out of the house – entering themselves into a ballooning around the world contest.
While there are a number of individuals that they have to face during the contest, their main competitors, the ones that they find themselves most evenly matched against, are their counterparts – the Chipettes, who individuals may remember as Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor. However, it becomes obvious that there is an ulterior motive for the creation of this balloon race, motives that were cooked up by Klaus and Claudia. Rather than just merely being an exhibition of skill, these two have made the balloon race a front from a diamond smuggling organization, and it is up to these two sets of chipmunks to really get to the bottom of it and solve all the problems associated with the race. For individuals that already have the first iteration of the DVD, there is little else to be had beyond a copy of the soundtrack CD.
If individuals liked the actual live-action/CG movie, pick up this DVD. Also, if the individual is about 20-25 now and wants a little bit of retro revival, get this and show them a little bit of their childhoods. This multimedia package will ensure that individuals are transported back to the halcyon days of 1987, when things were a little bit more simple and cartoons were a hell of a lot better than they are in the current period. Hopefully Paramount can continue to release any and all footage from their shows from the period. Regardless of the age of the film, it is always nice to see older shows being brought back to life in a sense.
