Astpai (Wiener Neustadt, Austria) is currently touring the East Coast and Midwest in support of the North American release of their sophomore album, Corruption Concealed (Under Deceptive Slogans), on Philly label Jump Start. The record will officially hit stores on May 10th but you can pick up a copy from the band on tour. Originally released on Fond Of Life and Rise Or Rust Records in Europe, Corruption Concealed is Astpai’s follow-up to their 2005 debut Feeling Safe In Programmed Channels. While Austria – a country with a population comparable to that of New York City – is hardly known for a thriving punk and hardcore scene, the band has been heavily influenced by the spirit and ethos of their American counterparts. Astpai is not only a testament to the reach and power of punk rock, but also its ability to unite and create something entirely new.

Combining intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics, Astpai fuse up-tempo punk and hardcore with a catchiness rarely seen in a band playing this style. They’ve been compared to contemporaries From Ashes Rise, but with the pop-sensibilities of Kid Dynamite or None More Black. You can stream a few tracks on the band’s myspace page.
