Dorothea #2 / $1.50 / 40M / email@example.com /
Mike Baker has a tremendous amount of talent when it comes to telling stories. If individuals are into gruesome, slinky stories that keep individuals in the dark for long period of time, a ‘zine like Dorothea is perfect. Stories here largely, instead of dealing with sexual experiences like in “Lazy Boyâ€, deal with death and murder. This is not a zine for the weak; individuals that have been sexually expplotied in the past may find triggering moments here. However, just as in the case of Forothea #1 and Lazy Boy, Baker shows that ey is one of the best storytellers currently out in the zine scene today. There is little placed in this issue to break up the stories beyond a hand-written title, yet it is easy to tell where one story starts and another ends. It is this case taken by Mike that makes this into a stellar zine. A key component to a number of these stories is the dual nature of a number of the main characters. Where each can be said to have a great life, being a cop or a leader of the rifle team, there is something negative lurking just within, leading to sex, rape, murder, or a variety of other morbid things. A great zine, all around. The one off-topic note I have: Baker says that this zine is free to prisoners, but I’m wondering how many prison mail rooms will honestly let this zine go through, even if they only pay a small amount of attention to the material that is contained within. Still, I love eir writing and wish eir the best.
