Law of Inertia #11 / Full-Sized / $4.95 / 172 Pages / http://www.lawofinertia.com / [email protected] / Reviewed 24 December 2003

Law of Inertia is another zine that mainly focuses on interviews, this time going with bands as diverse as The Aeffect, Princess Superstar, and Strife, and I can honestly say that I don’t have the problem that I typically do with these interview-focused ‘zines : boredom. Law of Inertia has an extremely competent set of writers that honestly know about the bands they interview and make each interview a completely different experience from the others in the zine. However, the layout (which is physically brilliant) give Law of Inertia a slight black mark – some pages are literally just the title of the band that is being interview, and the one or two non-interview pieces or sections are stuck at the end of the magazine. What might make the zine easier to read as a whole in one setting would be to throw one or two pages of reviews between each interview, to break up the sheer amount of question-answer back and forth. While each interview might be this differing experience, lets’ be honest here: you can only spin a thinly-veiled advertisement for a band so many ways. Still, if I actually bought glossy magazines like Law of Inertia, I think LOI would probably be the one I would go for after Punk Planet. For 5 bucks, the zine and the disc that comes with each issue makes this package one that would be hard to pass up.
