Matter #2 / $1 / Half Sized / 56 Pages / [email protected] / Matter, 1415 NE 87th Ave , Kansas City , MO 64155

Okay, so this zine is does by a kid who I believe to be in High School. This zine is just pretty much a mishmash of whatever ey could find and well, the zine stumbles through its 56 pages without completely becoming tedious. Some of the pieces such as the interview with Pass Me A Beer Productions tend to run a little long, while the comic about Spud is too short. The bands interviewed in this issue are all pretty cool, including pieces with Pistol Grip, The Casualties, and a band that I had not heard of called Brass Knuckle School. While there is a lot of text in this issue, I just don’t see the issue having much in the way of content. I mean, many of the pieces end up being “I believe…” works that do not go any farther than just a statement of what this kid believes. The comics are the high point of the zine, including the aforementioned Spud comic, and a political cartoon about McDonalds that actually is pretty sharp. The prognosis for this zine would be for the editor to go and cut out the number of pages and concentrate on fewer pieces. Honestly, there is some talent that is in this magazine that is not really exploited, instead having tons of pages that all seem to be rushed. Keep checking out this zine, and perhaps the editor will surprise you.
