This comic comes from the combined efforts of Dan Moynihan, tying together both Microblast, his old comic, and Mreow, which is a blanket epithet for all of his new work. Starting at the beginning of the comic, we have some interesting pieces, including a “Caption:Caption” game, which is where one person only sees the one step that came before as they draw their contribution?. This game is intended to be wacky, and Dan and Leslie (the person that he played with), do not fail in that department. Immediately after this, we have the meat of the comic – the actual comic itself, a neat amalgamation of styles, pretty much deals with a disconnected set of events. However, this does not detract from the comic, as Dan is talented enough to string readers along for the extent of two pages by just drawing the numerous styles into which a lead character places his hair. As I have not kept up with the series at all, I have no clue about some of the happenings in the book, but Dan does a great job in keeping the narrative simple enough for the typical reader to jump right in at any issue. Practically all events deal with the mundane aspect of life, but the middle one is an exception to this rule, as it is a purely cartoonish fantasy that liminally lauds the cartoonists of society. Also to be found in the midst of Dan?s cartoons is a narrative about some events that occurred as he was waiting to get some pictures developed at his home town, as well as some pictures from what I assume to be a Polaroid iZone camera. Well, as you can tell, I like this magazine due to its randomness, as well as the stylistic nuances that Dan has.
