The funky arrangements that start out the title track to this EP are tied together by a sultry set of female vocals that call forth acts as wide as The Sounds and Franz Ferdinand to traditional purveyors of electronic music such as Plastikman and the Crystal Method. One can definitely hear “House of Jealous Lovers†and even a little bit of the Go! Team in this first track. The result is the act’s first single on this EP, with two distinct singles and a remix still to go. The slinkier sound of “Eu Gosto†is a nice switch up of Telepathique’s style. While the track is not as immediately single-worthy as “Love & Lustâ€, the act gradually picks up momentum and energy.
This has the benefit of including a little bit of Atari Teenage Riot to the overall sounds broached, and puts the act into a style that individuals did not previously link to Telepathique. “Deja-Vu†(and it’s “Hot Tape Remix†finish out the EP. As was the case with the two preceding tracks, “Deja-Vu†takes listeners into a different style, pushing Telepathique into an overall sound that pushes together Bauhaus-era gothic music with a cheerleader-like stomp-heavy approach to vocal percussion. While I was not familiar with Telepathique before this, the quality of each of the tracks on “Love & Lust†will make me much more receptive to future releases. Here’s to hoping that they will be able to stack future releases with the same type of eclectic style that marked the “Love & Lust†EP. Check them out if you are a fan of electronic or funky types of music – Telepathique will have something for you, regardless of which sub-genres you like.
