The video is helmed by Christopher Mills, who we haven’t seen on the music video scene since his early ’00s work with bands like Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse & Interpol. We hope you like it!

The Acorn’s new album is now available in the US on Paper Bag Records! Glory Hope Mountain, the band’s sophomore effort, has continued to meet with critical praise as the band has captivated new and old fans alike with incredible performances both at SXSW and on tour (see below for quotes, live photos)! Following their recent trip to Austin, the band will return to the US once again! Tour dates below.

Glory Hope is a touching homage to the life story of Gloria Montoya Esperanza, as told by her son, Rolf Klausener. To keep with the theme, Rolf did a lot of research on Smithsonian recordings of 50s Honduran Folk Music and West Indian rhythms during the writing of this album. Based on interviews recorded in 2006 and recorded over 9 months, the sometimes haunting, sometimes exuberant tones of the album follow both hope and tragedy in Montoya’s native Honduras – a mother dying in childbirth, flash floods, an abusive father – and an ultimately life-affirming move to Montreal in the 1970s.

Press:

“Glory Hope Mountain is an intimate and beautifully orchestrated album with heartfelt stories of personal tragedy and triumph.” – NPR

“dynamic shifts and evocative instrumentation…Klausener crafts…an allegorical narrative of strength, perseverance, love, and redemption. Epic and satisfying” – Pitchfork

“loose-mic, intimate vocals. The undulating layers of string arrangements show much internalization occurred by all the members of the Acorn in Montoya’s life story. It’s almost folkloric.” -SPIN.com Artist of the Day

“an album that swiftly sidesteps the usual trappings that bog down most concept albums, thanks primarily to Klausener’s skill as a lyricist and a storyteller, as he manages to convey deeply emotional subject matter without resorting to melodrama. And to the credit of the rest of the band, the musical arrangements follow suit.” – PopMatters

“subtly sweeping and agreeably melodic” – Stereogum
“Gorgeous.” – Gorilla vs. Bear

“Lovely and ambitious” – Chromewaves

“an album bejeweled by its details, consistently listenable and saving some of its most accessible moments for last, it’s tough to let go of what I had long considered a local secret. Make your hometown proud, boys. We’re rooting for you.” – CokeMachineGlow

SxSW – The Mohawk (3/15/08)
“[their] intricate polyrhythms and instrumentation absorbed me immediately and completely” -New York Press
