Set at $34.99 for a 750ml bottle (a 1.75 L bottle is available as well), Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum would normally be a little out of our price range. However, we were provided with a sample of the rum, and after getting a number of opinions and thought about the overall taste, mouthfeel, and bouquet, we here at NeuFutur felt that an individual that actually purchased a bottle of the Single Barrel Estate Rum would be getting a great value. As for the actual bouquet, there is a formidable strength to the rum smell that shows that the Single Barrel Estate Rum will not go easily into that good gullet. However, this does not mean that the alcohol will be sub-par in any way, but that the rum itself will exhibit a complexity that requires proper time to dissect and understand.

Saying that, there is an immediate but quickly-dissipating burn to the run itself, which is replaced with vanilla notes. Despite the sharpness of the smell, Single Barrel Estate Rum goes down very easily. Despite the description that the darker rums will cause harder hangovers than clear rums, the mellowing-out process that each bottle of the Single Barrel Estate Rum goes through allows for a mellow type of effervescence and a quick return to sobriety. The fact that the Single Barrel Estate Rum has won such prestigious awards as World’s Best Rum by both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and by Frederick Koppel (to say nothing of the platinum medal awarded it by the Beverage Testing Institute and the award of excellence that it received from The American Tasting Institute should be the final bit of evidence that will get you going to your local liquor store and ordering or purchasing a bottle of Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum.
