“Norah Jones fans will feel right at home. … But she traffics in the same musical style as Laura Nyro, and she does it very well. These songs have sinuous rhythms that Campos negotiates with ease, playing with the grooves as well as the romantic messages of the lyrics, and ably backed by her fellow musicians. FOUR STARS ««««”

“… it’s got this haunting sound that I love… truthfulness and sincerity …”

NEW YORK – CONCHITA CAMPOS makes no bones about being a stranger in a strange land. With the Filipino-American storytelling songstress’ acclaimed debut 7-song EP SO IT GOES drawing comparisons from Norah Jones to Laura Nyro, Campos heralds an exciting new face of American pop, with influences from the world over.

Having recently made her national radio debut with a performance on the syndicated Joey Reynolds Show, earning a four-star review in All Music Guide and landing the cover of Courier-Life Publications’ 24/7 Guide, Conchita also has been praised for having “all of the nuances and subtleties that define contemporary pop” by Blogger News Network, as well as “the sincerity with which Campos feels the music and steers the melodies of the songs that makes ‘So It Goes’ a success.” Calling the songs on So It Goes “nifty,” the Biloxi Sun-Herald urged its audience to simply “hop on board.”

Each track is an honest and lyrical slice of life straight from the complex contemporary American experience, revealing an intoxicating mix of sounds hinting at Nina Simone, Alana Davis, Jill Scott, Sade, John Mayer, and Astrud Gilberto. Having put in time in Pasadena, Philadelphia, the Philippines, San Francisco, and these days, Brooklyn, NY, Campos’ sound heralds from everywhere and nowhere in one refreshing, carefree groove.

Part folk, part jazz, part exotic with a touch of acoustic soul, Campos forges her own bold path on So It Goes. The radio-friendly and optimistic “Just Time” is at once mellow, funky, and infectiously melodic. “For Tonight” is a light and fresh take on the old school quiet storm love ballad, and the bright and carefree “Runaway Day” recalls Campos’ joyous days in California. Campos sings from the experience of being both Filipino and American, of being a free-spirited artist in a work-a-day world, and of the search for an emotional place to call home.

Taking the big city plunge is really paying off for Conchita Campos. Fans have been taking notice in prominent New York venues like The Bitter End, Crash Mansion, and The Knitting Factory, as well as any number of University shows around the region. It is a special treat to find her rocking with her NYC-based backing band as Conchita’s Collective.

Stations in Japan and U.S. college radio are catching the buzz on So It Goes. Ride the wave with Conchita Campos now, as her fan base – like her musical awareness – goes global.
