Guitar Hero On Tour has to be the most innovative use of the Nintendo DS that I have ever seen. Individuals that purchase the Guitar Hero On Tour pack will get a guitar crip that approximates the buttons on the normal Guitar Hero guitar, a strap for the game, and a pick stylus. Aside from the strap (which is a nice addition), all parts are essential to the game. The buttons have to be pushed while the individual has to drum the guitar on the screen to register a note. Up to two individuals can play, with the same type of battles that were present in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

However, the touch screen attacks are more interesting than those that were on three, making individuals either blow out a fire, sign an autograph, or cry as their screens have been flipped. Perhaps the best thing about Guitar Hero On Tour is the collection of new tracks, which differ significantly from any prior Guitar Hero game. Of particular note during this game would have to be Ozzy Osbourne’s “I Don’t Wanna Stop”, Daughtry’s “What I Want”, and Skid Row’s “Youth Gone Wild”. The tracks that have been present on prior Guitar Hero games – ZZ Top’s “La Grange” and Bloc Party’s “Helicopter” – are perhaps the most memorable tracks that were on these earlier games. While there is one less button for individuals to use during this iteration of the game, the acclimation that players will have towards the DS, plus the higher difficulty levels, ensures that the missing orange button is not any concern. Just check out the solo to the aforementioned “I Don’t Wanna Stop” and see how it compares to “Reign in Blood” or “Through The Fire And Flames”; I believe that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Vicarious Visions has done a great job in transferring the Guitar Hero game play style to the DS, filling the game with a tremendous amount of music and options, and leaving the door open for a number of expansions and subsequent additions to this line. If you have a Nintendo DS and like Guitar Hero, make it a point to go forth and buy the game. If you are addicted to Guitar Hero in the first place, buy a DS and Guitar Hero On Tour. You will not be disappointed.
