Punk Rock Confidential #3 / :40 / $3.95 / http://www.punkrockcon.com /

This is essentially what People would be like if it catered to punk music. There are so many fluff pieces in this magazine that Punk Rock Confidential should be relegated to shitter material status. At some point, who cares about who the individuals agitating for social change are in love with, or for fuck sake, what their pet looks like? The fact that this is $3.95 an issue and also that Fat Mike is editor of this magazine is disappointing to say the least. In their defense, the layout of this issue is strong, but that just means that most of the issue is just flashy and ultimately forgettable. The inclusion of a recipe in the “Eat Me TV” piece is a decent derivation from the typical fodder of Punk Rock Confidential, while there are a number of just photoshoots that waste a few pages. A perfect example of this would have to be the look inside the Bouncing Soul’s Chunksaah Records headquarters. I understand the necessity of mixing text and pictures, but when the middle section of the zine has no less than 10 pages of near-solid pictures, individuals feel almost as if they are back in fifth grade. The advertisements are fairly short in duration and actually make sense in the context of things, but simply put, Punk Rock Confidential is a magazine that should just be flipped through in the racks at the local record store or Barnes & Noble. Here’s to hoping the editors of this zine put down the Entertainment Weekly and pick up The Nation.
