Quixotic Potential #3 / $1 / 24 Pages / Half-Sized / Trade / [email protected]

As Vera says on the first page of this zine, “this zine is run by, yes, you know it, SUBMISSIONS.” This cannot be more true, as every piece in this issue is one this is not written by Vera. Even though ey does not write in this issue, she does pick some pretty amazing pieces to run, specifically those by the Unabomber and Dick Hebdige. The Unabomber’s pieces (from his manifesto) are the most philosophical, tying together technology with a loss of freedom. In this, he says that cars actually increased freedom for a bit, as they allowed individuals to go places in a quicker amount of time, but soon there were all sorts of laws and restrictions, including registration, plates, speed limits, and the advantage in freedom then turned into a disadvantage. While the rest of the magazine seems to slip away only too fast, the unabomber’s writing still sticks with me, and even makes me want to read more of his work. This zine is one that is apparently very popular, as I seen it be bid on by a number of people on skylabcommerce. Make sure you only get copies from Vera and do not have to lower yourself to vulture on that site when ey will be more than happy to send you a copy for a trade or a pittance of money.
