Rebel In Magenta #14 / Half Sized / 24 Pages / Trade/ $1 / [email protected] / http://www.gurlpages.com/poppie-love / Melanie, 6270 St Rt 113 , Bellevue, OH 44811

This zine is almost completely laid out with computer-based programs (Word, etc), and it walks the thin line between cleanliness and needless sterility. Melanie goes and puts the text all out and does not allow for the variable handwritten text. This issue of Rebel In Magenta deals with Melanie first auditions for a band and worries a friend’s then-wife, and ey’s blossoming relationship with the friend. Also discussed in the magazine at small length is Melanie’s former penchant for drinking (I don’t know if Melanie would technically call it alcoholism or not), ey’s job as a housing supervisor, and ey’s landlord, who is characterized in one part of the zine as being nice (allowing Melanie to have a long-haired cat enough though the landlord is allergic) and being extremely lazy/neglectful in the duties that they are given as landlords. Throughout the zine, serious writing is intertwined with humor, and this, I do believe, makes the zine read much more quickly. Doing a service to (assumedly) the zinesters that ey had traded with, Melanie includes a plethora of zine reviews and a listing of the various comp zines that ey wishes to create in the future. A very strong zine that does not bog the reader down with prior knowledge needed or insult them by providing everything.
