Signal / $1 / Anne Flor – Stagnato / 24 Pages / Fourth-Sized / [email protected]

Signal is a mini-zine about the very difficult period that Anne has had in her life, and how ey tries to deal with everything. For being such a small zine, Anne has really filled each page with a ton of emotion and a blind sort of energy, searching around for something that ey cannot find. Seemingly divided between two individuals which ey loved equally, Anne writes this as someone in the role of spectator : ey knows whats going to happen, but has no agency to change anything. What is really jarring to one reading Anne’s narrative is the piece that ey puts in by Darla Taylor, a regular contributor to Anne’s other zine, Barbie War. Its’ not as if the piece is that detached from the subject matter, but the style of the writing is so much more laconic and direct than Anne. It really as if one is jumping from a Spartan poet to Jack Kerowac, and that’s not a bad thing. Anne chooses to end the zine with a plea to eir’s former significant other to still remain friends, which ends the zine with more than a little note of wonder about how that worked. Pick up this zine if you are ready for some extreme emotion.
