Kicking off Earsplit’s cooperation with Italy’s Supernatural Cat Records, the label formed by the amazing, worldwide-known poster art collective known as Malleus. The first release of this new alliance will be Ufomammut’s phenomenal new full-length Idolum, available now for coverage. The band will be traveling to the US for a full tour later this year in support of the album, and will also be joined by the Malleus collective on this trip; more info will follow shortly. In the meantime interviews are available via email with the band, and also with the Malleus/Supernatural Cat crew.

Check out what Idolum has in store here: http://www.lastfm.it/music/Ufomammut/IDOLUM.

With long songs, droning vocals and massive effects Ufomammut is right there along side of bands such as neurosis, combining their monumental riffing attitude with the psychedelia of the more visionary Pink Floyd.
With Snailking – their second full-length release – Ufomammut was worldwide recognized as the creator of a unique brand of psychedelic sludge. The last album, Lucifer Songs, opened new and unexpected doors, being the result of a mature and tight-knit band willing to experiment whilst maintaining its DNA. The flaming spatial voyage which made Snailking one of the records of the year in 2004 in many specialist magazines and webzines, remained as their core sound, evolving alongside new soundscapes made up of sinister atmospheres and gloomy sounds of vintage electronics.

Ufomammut is today a powerful wall of sound weaving their intrinsic dream state whilst able to hypnotize and spellbind the listener with obsessive dilatations approaching drone music. The peculiar charm of the sound of Ufomammut continues to defy pigeonholing. Many music critics and fans alike define the band’s sound as the beginning of a whole new kind of music, which mixes doom with psychedelic, trance with extreme, industrial with post-rock and metal.

In 2007 the band recorded Supernaturals – Record One, a telluric monster session together with the labelmates Lento: six hypnotic songs that are the prelude to the new album hitting right now, Idolum.
Idolum is a new chapter in the sonic history of Ufomammut, presenting a sensible evolution in the sound and in the structure of the songs: totally dark and oppressive atmospheres, simple and mastodontic song frameworks, a different idea of psychedelic rock.

“Idolum” is a Latin word meaning, “ghost” and “idea” at the same time, representing the massive but hidden presence as the main concepts of the album. Ufomammut’s live show is supported by the internationally acclaimed video and graphic art of Malleus, a rock artists’ collective who conjure the entirety of Ufommamut’s visual impact.

“Does Idolum redefine what it means to play heavy music? Possibly – there’s an emotional complexity that adds depth to their massive wall of sound. It is for certain colossal, unstoppable, and beautiful; a mammoth achievement by the band. Highly recommended.” – stonerrock.com

“Name-checking Isis and Tool on their way to through the cosmos Ufomammut takes a similar – if perhaps less-focused on song length – stab at post-doom as did Portland, OR’s Yob… Consider this absolutely essential.” – The Aquarian Weekly
