This box set closes the chapter on USA’s series The Dead Zone. All in all, it covers nearly ten hours and has a number of features that give individuals a better appreciation for the show. The bonus features start off with “A New Home For ‘The Dead Zone’”, which showcases how the crew and actors had to pack up and move to the other side of Canada – from Vancouver all the way to Montreal. Further bonus features include “All Aboard”, a featurette that showcases the difficulties in filming a major television show on a moving platform. However, where individuals may be most interested in would have to be the audio commentaries that were whipped up for four of the episodes.

As is the case with the rest of the episodes of the show, individuals that are looking for a comparable experience to the original film may not exactly be sated with the events that take place during the final season of USA’s The Dead Zone. However, I see a maturity and evolution in the writing style that has taken place from the 2002 season to the final one, and it is this collection of episode that puts forth the show’s strongest foot. While there are trends and common linkages made through the episodes, individuals that have just started watching the show will be easily able to pick up on the motives and underlying desires of each of the characters on the show. In a time of countless Sci-Fi shows that a shit-canned within one or two seasons, the fact that The Dead Zone made it out to this point is simply shocking. While the final episode – “Denouement” – acts as a good finale for the show, I can’t help but think that a made for TV movie or some sort of longer episode would have done better to close up the loose plotholes and made individuals fine with the closing up of the show.

If you were a fan of the show, I would wholeheartedly suggest that you pick up all six seasons of the show, gradually going through them over the course of a month or show. After finishing them up, individuals will be able to gain a new found appreciation for each of the characters, at a level that was never possible when the episodes were first aired. Kudos to Lionsgate for finishing up the box sets quickly enough, finishing things up only months after the last episode aired.
