The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment / 2008 WWE / 9 Hours / http://www.wwe.com /

Dwayne (“The Rock”) Johnson’s career in the WWE is equally the equal to the legends that preceded eir, whether it be Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, or “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. It only makes sense that “The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man” should be the next major DVD set that is put out by the WWE. This nine-hour collection features The Rock’s best known matches, promos, and one-liners. The DVD set has matches starting from Rocky Maivia’s match against then-Intercontinental Champion Hunter Hearst Helmsley (2/13/1997) all the way to eir match against Stone Cold at Wrestlemania XIX.

Along the way, there are quite a few special matches, particularly the match with Kurt Angle at No Way Out 2001, the current legend versus all-time legend match with Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 18, and the match with Eddie Guerrero (7/22/2002) that catapulted Guerrero further into main event status. However, viewers of The Rock never only focused on the wrestling ability of The Rock, so the WWE has placed some of The Rock’s most memorable skits onto this set. This means that The Rock’s diatribe against Kevin Kelly, along with some of The Rock’s attacks against superstars such as Kane and The Big Show, are present.

The only thing that I could conceivably come up with that may be an issue for viewers is that the match between The Rock and Stone Cold from Wrestlemania X-Seven is not present. However, this negative has a decidedly positive side to it. This is further evidence that the WWE and WWE Home Video are sticking to their guns and ensuring that each DVD has only new material to contribute to viewers’ collections.

Where a number of these matches and other bits of materials were only present on WWE 24/7 and in other illicit types of commerce, WWE has put forth a clear version of some diamonds in the rough types of track and ensured that a whole new generation of fans will be able to appreciate them for the modern classics that they are. With the release schedule of superstar collection and current PPVs onto DVD, WWE Home Video has continually stoked demand in their product. By pulling out some amazing material, they have ensured that The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment will be one of their best selling DVDs of the year, if not of the last five years.
