Self-titled CD arrives in independent music stores July 8; available now through Ten Club at pearljam.com

SEATTLE — Harrybu McCage, the jazz trio assembled by Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, will release their self-titled debut CD in stores July 8. The disc is available immediately through Pearl Jam’s Ten Club at www.pearljam.com.

Joining Cameron in the all-instrumental outfit are keyboardist and guitarist Ryan Burns and bassist Geoff Harper (Herbie Hancock, Bill Frisell). Cameron also contributes guitar.

Released on Pearl Jam’s own Monkey Wrench label, Harrybu McCage features 10 songs, including the originals “Rhodes Jam” by Cameron and “Jetskiing on Priest Lake” by Burns.

Many of the other tracks look to famed jazz drummers such as Art Blakey, Roy Haynes and Max Roach for inspiration. Five of the songs are interpretations of pieces written by pianist Thelonious Monk. The disc closes with a cover of Funkadelic’s 1974 track, “Alice In My Fantasies.” The band’s eccentric approach to the music is complemented by a psychedelic album cover courtesy of New York graffiti artist Noah Sparkes.

Before joining Pearl Jam a decade ago, Cameron was best known as the drummer for alternative music icons Soundgarden. His 22-year recording career also includes work with his side projects Wellwater Conspiracy and Hater, as well as turns behind the kit with Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, Rush’s Geddy Lee, Smashing Pumpkins and many others.

Last month Harrybu McCage performed at the 2008 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. That concert followed a handful of shows in Seattle earlier this year.

1. I Mean You (C. Hawkins, T. Monk) 6. Jetskiing on Priest Lake (Ryan Burns)
