Eclectic and ambitious as ever, Mason Proper returns from the trenches with their sophomore full-length LP, Olly Oxen Free, due September 23 via Dovecote Records (Ed Harcourt, Tim Williams). Like the childhood phrase it’s named after, the LP sparkles with a youthful exuberance but never veers too far from the band’s trademark territory of the dark and deranged.

Co-produced by the band and Chris Coady (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blonde Redhead), Olly Oxen Free lures you into the strange and fantastic world of Mason Proper from the first swell of ominous organ and guitar in opener, “Fog.”

Since the release of their debut LP, 2007’s, There Is A Moth In Your Chest (Dovecote Records), Mason Proper has methodically honed their sound at their frenetic live shows, touring alongside Birdmonster and Via Audio, playing shows with Tokyo Police Club, Joanna Newsome and Cloud Cult and a much-talked about appearance at the 2007 Monolith Festival.

Never content to rest, Mason Proper will tour throughout the fall, including dates with Cloud Cult in November. Olly olly oxen free!
