Starleen #3

This zine is pretty far off from the ones that I usually pick out. Not personal at all, the zine reads like a more serious version of READ magazine, with a number of political pieces (Arnold being governor, Solar housing, Palestine vs. Israel US spending), while throwing some other random pieces, including writing to McDonalds and reviewing Nickled and Dimed by Barbera Ehrenreich. The zine goes even more quickly than…

Chelsea – Faster, Cheaper, and Better Looking (CD)

I like Chelsea. They were present on a number of different punk compilations that I have heard over the years. This album is a new one for the band, and it is important because it features the trio of James Stevenson, Chris Bashford, and Gene October. This trio was integral in creating the Chelsea sound, and they have not been together in the recording studio since 1979.

Tape Op #50

Tape Op is one of those zines that really have a double life, informing individuals through letters and interviews but also through the ample advertisements that find their way into the magazine. What seems to be the best thing about Tape op is that interested individuals that are in the field can get a free subscription. I do not honestly know where individuals would have to pay $4.50 for a…

Freshkills Release S/T Album 9/2

Freshkills – yes, one word – are a five-piece tour guide to the lives, awkward conversations and head games that play out deep into the night in New York City’s dark bars and messy bedrooms. Each protagonist is motivated by sordid appetites, like moths attracted to blackness. Each song has the sound and feel of a mini-apocalypse.
