Skyscraper has a lot in common with magazines like Shredding Paper and The Big Takeover. Skyscraper is more like The Big Takeover because each of the magazines cover in an exhaustive way the music that the editors find most cutting-edge. While The Big Takeover has much more in the way of classic acts, Skyscraper showcases the newest, most buzzed-about bands (Aids Wolf, Witch, Some Girls), while throwing in some bands that individuals might not be aware of (Parts & Labor, I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness, Rah Bras). The magazine has a very robust layout, one in which the advertisements in the issue speak to the pictures in the interviews and reviews well. What comes forth is a very organized and cohesive magazine, with little in the way of derivation from the formula that previous issues of the magazine have exploited. The zine’s cost is a hair over five dollars after one pays tax, but for keeping up to date with all of the acts that individuals in smaller locals may never get to see. There is a section that I’ve not seen in previous issues present here (and whether I’ve just ignored it in previous issues is a distinct possibility), but Skyscraper has a blurb type of news section. This is a perfect thing for this magazine, as I cannot count the number of times which I’ve heard about a new album or a band breaking up well after the fact. The magazine brings it hard and fast each time they come out with something new.
