The Gaslight Anthem’s new album “The ’59 Sound” entered the Billboard Top 200 chart this week with a debut at #70. The band is currently in the UK playing a string of shows following their Reading and Leeds performances. Their fall U.S. tour consists of Co-Headlining shows with American Steel and a support slot on the Rise Against, Alkaline Trio & Thrice tour.

The Gaslight Anthem was featured on the cover of Kerrang! Magazine earlier this month and their CD release party for “The ’59 Sound” was reviewed by the New York Times.

Here are some cool quotes:

“The Best New Band You’ll Hear In 2008” – KERRANG! cover feature (Aug 9, 2008 issue)

“The Gaslight Anthem packs rich, lustrous songwriting into taut punk arrangements. Its casually observed storytelling, overflowing with detail, seethes with a cool desperation reminiscent of Mr. Springsteen in the late ’70s.”- The New York Times live review (Aug 19, 2008 issue)

“Behold. Rebel Without A Cause Reincarnated! Imagine the end of summer when those whirlwind romances, jealous hearts and unbridled backseat desires face the untimely fate of blowing away with the changing leaves. Harvesting deeply entrenched emotions of love, loss, lust and looming change, modern punk mavericks The Gaslight Anthem know these notions all too well” – Alternative Press “4 out of 5” album review (Aug 2008 issue)

“The band’s sophomore full-length, The ’59 Sound, is a 12 song streak of soul influenced cinematic punk, with each piece revolving around a plot steeped in the Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty school of songwriting.” – OUTBURN feature and “9 stars out of 10” album review (Aug 2008 issue)

“THE ’59 SOUND opens with a noisy stylus gliding over vinyl says a lot about The Gaslight Anthem. Wearing their influences (Bruce Springsteen and The Replacements) as badges of honour, the New Jersey quartet blast out affecting, soulful punk rock strewn with bittersweet memories of small-town, blue-collar America. This year’s The Hold Steady?” – Q Magazine (UK) “4 stars out of 4” album review (Aug 2008 issue)
