Denny has put out this zine for a longer time than I’ve even been into zining at all, so ey knows what ey is doing. This issue takes place as a number of journal entries, and details a few key things to happen in Denny’s life. This includes having the Gods of noise punk, PG99, stay at eir apartment, having a fight with the followers of eir’s boyfriend’s band, and having eir dog ran over by a jackass driving an SUV, who coincidentally didn’t even bother stopping. In order to try and go and record al eir old journal entries, Denny comments on these little blurbs (mainly from 1994), after which eir destroys them. So, instead of having a detached view of eir past ,Denny makes sure that this first-person experience, the rawness of it all, is properly captured. We also are shown exactly how much the writing style and general maturity of Denny has changed throughout the years – the writing of 1994 is much less visceral, much less mature than the writings from this issue (which cover events that happened in 2002). This issue of Supreme Nothing would benefit from an individual having read other issues of Supreme Nothing, but this is by no means a necessary thing – SN is a very well-done zine, with each issue being a separate capsule from the others. The mixture of old and new really makes the experience complete, and this is what makes Supreme Nothing such a respected zine in a land that is utterly littered with shitty first-person experience zines.
