Christoph is the editor of the very successful and (always) fun Twenty-Eight Pages Lovingly Bound With Twine. This is a marked departure from this zine, for a structural and stylistic reason. First off, the orientation of the zine is different (the pages are landscape) and are bound with staples, while the style is that of a comic, instead of the text-heavy precursor zine. “An Unfortunate Mouse” is just a sampling of a longer comic novel named “Mouse Fortune Buffet”. While this may only be a fraction of the actual story, Christoph’s story-telling style is able to make this a self-sufficient episode in its own right. The style is simple but very iconic. There is no doubting what Christoph is trying to show with each panel of this zine. The style of Christoph’s drawing is something that feels like a blend of “The Assassin and the Whiner”, Eightball, and ancient Celtic drawings; distinct while standing on the shoulders of giants. Christoph is also strong in creating a narrative that is believable while still interjecting it with humor and a sense that the actions described here could conceivably happen to everyone. Individuals that pick up this mini comic will want to read the entirety of this new endeavor by Christoph; every constituent piece of this comic is something that a wide swath of readers will dig. The duration may be a little short, but it is something that can be read over and over until your copy of “Mouse Fortune Buffet” comes to your front steps.
