Austin native Carrie Rodriguez makes her first Austin City Limits appearance this month. Her performance, taped in July, will air the week of October 25, 2008 (check local listings in your area); the show also features Jakob Dylan. “I grew up watching Austin City Limits” Rodriguez said, “so this was a dream come true for me definitely the highlight of my musical career so far.” Austin City Limits (PBS), the legendary public television show, is the longest-running popular music show in the United States and just kicked off its 34th season.
Highlights of the set include songs from SHE AIN’T ME, Rodriguez’s second solo album and follow-up to 2006’s critically-acclaimed SEVEN ANGELS ON A BICYCLE (EMI/Manhattan/Back Porch) as well as audience favorites “Never Gonna Be Your Bride” and “Absence”. For the show, the Austin-born and Berklee trained violinist-turned-fiddler enlisted her touring band — Hans Holzen (guitar), Kyle Kegerreis (bass), Eric Platz (drums) — as well as special guests Gary Louris of the Jayhawks (background vocals, guitar), Greg Leisz (pedal & lap steel guitars) and Michael Ramos (keyboards).
A stellar sophomore effort, SHE AIN’T ME has been receiving rave reviews. The Associated Press said “The classically trained Rodriguez’s second solo album, “She Ain’t Me,” showcases her growth as a vocalist. Her voice has blossomed into a versatile, nuanced instrument that’s equally appealing on a swaggering rocker or love lament. It’s clear Rodriguez is a major talent.” While the Boston Globe raved “What can’t she doÂ… Carrie Rodriguez has rapidly emerged as one of the most compelling new voices on the roots-rock scene. What’s so enticing about Rodriguez’s music is her gift for delivering emotional grit with a winsome sound. Whether flirty, forlorn, or fighting mad, her voice is cool and self-contained, full of promise and peril.”
Rodriguez is touring in support of SHE AIN’T ME through November of 2009 (see current touring itinerary below). Her segments of the popular radio shows Mountain Stage and World Café will air in October. SHE AIN’T ME recently reached #2 on the Americana radio charts and #18 on the AAA non-com charts. In November, she’ll tape the nationally syndicated radio show Acoustic Café. Look for her visibility to increase even more next year with additional TV, media, and touring introducing her music to a wider audience.
